October's First Makeover - The Yard Sale Nursery Dresser Grows Up!

When we first moved into 

Our OldCountry House

 the sweet lady across the street(NOT Crazy Carol) 

 had a bedroom set on her front lawn with a "for sale" sign.

I asked her how much and when she found out 

it was for us, "the new neighbors with all cute the little kids", she said

"Oh, for you, Just $40".

So we got a headboard, a bed side table and a dresser.

DEAL!

Presently the bedside table still lives in my daughters room...

The headboard, has been upholstered by me and is in my Sons room

....and the dresser has been sitting in the hall since 

Phoebes room make over, in May.

Lost and with No Where to go.

Phoebe's clothing just did not fit the drawers anymore.

It would be a perfect Nursery dresser.

I debated Craig's list.

I saw this inspiration dresser for a mere $13,000!!!

are people just crazy?

But then I kept looking at the lines and thinking 

"I really can make this work".

and so last week...I did it.

Makeover Time!

Time for a MakeOver!

Tutorial:

Supplies: 

1.Paint

2.Wood Filler

3.Sanding sponges, refills etc.

4.Putty Knife and or chisel

5. Small Roller sponges, and roller for applying paint

6. small paint brushes for detail work

7. Finishing wax

8., 9. and 10...misc other tools which always come in handy, screwdriver, razor scraper.

I took out the drawers and with my chisel, I removed the appliques.
I  filled the holes where the knobs had been,
knowing I was going to do center knobs.
I then filled all  the teensy holes, left by the nails which held the appliques
 with wood putty and let all of that dry.
When it was dry I sanded (and in some cases reapplied)
until I could not barely
see where the  appliques had been.

Then I primed it and painted it with 3 coats of 

"Anchor Gray" by Benjamin Moore - I am loving this color!!!

I don't know how else to describe it except to say 

"It is a very Farrow and Ball color"

Deep, Rich. 

I left the raised trim white and

 then painted it and the outer rim of the top a

 sample Benjamin Moore

mis-tint I got for $1 called 

"everlasting". 

This color, as it turns out is the exact look of old aged ivory paint

perfect and I will use it again and again!

After I painted, I sanded and distressed it and

 then polished it with a coat of finishing wax.

Lastly, I needed knobs. 

I had some in my cart at Knobs.com, 

and then came upon these at Anthropologie

 for $10/each...marked down to $2.95 each...no brainer! Perfect!

I love the rustic and the porcelain...

The final reveal speaks for itself

 and a little Upstairs...Downstairs for you! 

 ...So another makeover complete and another piece repurposed. I know already that this dresser will not stay upstairs long, as much as I love it in the hall, it would look SO GOOD downstairs!!I am so happy that I did not ditch it. Total work time was about 2 1/2 hours broken up into 1/2 hour work sessions every night last week...But I Got er done!
