POWDER ROOM MAKEOVER - DAY ONE - DEMO

BEFORE

Bathroom DEMO:

I am not always good about photographing these steps along the way...I get so wrapped up doing them that I forget to grab my camera.

TOOLS"
Screw Driver
Towels
Matt Knife
Wrench
Hammer
Wood filler
Caulk

TOILET REMOVAL -
(I used this tutorial HERE and HERE
1. TURN OFF Water source at the base of the toilet (rightie tightie - leftie loosie)
2. flush toilet and move remaining water from tank. Use a plunger to get as much water
from toilet bowl.
3. Remove the plastic caps on the screws at the base of the toilet, and then remove the nuts and washers and screws.
4. Use your mat knife and cut the caulk at the base of the toilet, loosening it, rock it a bit and then lift it out.
5. After you remove the toet PLUG the HOLE in the floor with towels (but don't let them fall in, the prevent sewer gases from getting out.
6. Remove and replace the wax wring.
By the way, just because, I wore a mask for this job...nothing needed to be splashing my my face.
Some people separate the two pieces..we could not get ours apart, so took the whole thing out as one piece.

SINK REMOVAL
This Tutorial HERE is helpful
1. TURN OFF  of the water to both hot and cold faucets.
2. Un Do Bolts at underside back of sink
3. Disconnect Faucet

AFTER

FLOORING REMOVAL
1. PRY shoe mold from base of wall, with screw driver and tap with hammer
2. Our Vinyl flooring came up easily, I scored it with the matt knife and just pulled it all up.

After I removed the floor, and before I put the hardiback down, I lay a large piece of cardboard down, to cover the nasty old floor.

TOMORROW-

  1. Hey Lesli! I started checking out your blog after YHL featured you and I've been popping over ever since! I'm SO encouraged that removing/ replacing a toilet is a DIY project. I had a little mishap trying to replace a toilet seat and... I suspect you get the gist of what ultimately happened by this question. Thanks for the motivation!

    2. At this point, I couldn't agree more! The cracked toilet's got to go so might as well take a whack at it. Worst case, is we get the pros involved. :) Still... I'm impressed!
