BARN BURNED DOWN...

One of my favorite quotes.... the one on
the magnet on my refrigerator reads:

Barn Burnt Down
Now I can see the Moon.

This is one of my favorite quotes,
written by 17th century Poet & Samurai,
Masahide, whose barn did actually burn down,
and which inspired him to write this haiku.

Living in the country, I am surrounded by barns and earlier this year I began painting them. I almost feel as if they have as much personality as the animals I paint.

There is a barn near me, that I used to drive by all the time just to look at.
It was so beautiful.
One summer day I drove by took a bunch of photos in the sunset.
The barn burned down one week later.

I was so sad when I heard the barn burned down.

But recently I found out that a huge effort had been take to build a NEW barn and if not to perfectly replicate it...try to come close. And a very fire proof one.
The other day, I went by and sure enough...the new barn is almost completed!
The drive there is heavenly...

I will paint this barn soon, as well as the original barn...

  2. I found your blog a couple of nights ago and have had a blast 'catching up" I love your home, your artwork and your adorable children. I lived in a 1904 home in the Atlanta area for years and so can totally relate to everything you blog about concerning the house - even to the "twin" hole we once had in our ceiling :) I think your artwork is wonderful and I am as crazy about my dogs as you are about yours. I spray paint every.every.thing, too and my powder room downstairs has big, wide horizontal stripes like your laundry! And I have sent your blog address to my parents who live in Virginia and to my sister who went to UVA!! (and who has about as many animals as you have painted on her little country place!!) I found your blog after your show opened but I am hoping they will get to visit it before it ends!! I will definitely look forward to reading your blog and seeing your decorating changes and your artwork!! And don't feel bad about changing room colors so often - my husband has truly gone to bed with a room one color - and no plans for it to change- and waked up to a room that is completely another color!!
