FAUX Bamboo Side Table MAKEOVER Transformation

There is almost nothing  that gives me more pleasure than taking something
deemed "worthless" and making it wonderful!

...this coffee table, now side table, was purchased for $6 at a yard sale.
It has a glass top, under which I display photos!
I sprayed it black and have never looked back!
For the entire summer, I have had my eye on a broken up
Faux bamboo Side Table which sat, for months on the front porch
of the Consignment store down the street.
Finally last week, I brought it home.
Cost = $15
It was in pretty bad shape. The back was filled with dirt and bugs. The top was warped.
The knobs, two of which were missing, were broken and chipped...and not in the good way.
But there was a VERY BIG surprise about this piece,
which is why I bought it.
and I will get to that later.

The drawer fronts were all falling off.
I took it completely apart. Took the drawer fronts
off and removed the hardware.

I then primed it...and sanded it
and painted it,
using a sponge roller,
with 2 coats of
 Farrow and Ball's "Light Gray",
well, to be honest...the color is by Farrow and Ball,
the paint was by Benjamin Moore
I had them match it for me
in REGAL Pearl finish.
I have had the paint for months. It was leftover from a time
when I could not decide
which color to paint my dining room.

Whenever I am refinishing a piece,
 I like to see how
other pieces, like it,  have been done.. and so I will google them.
In this case, I googled...
 "Faux bamboo side table" and
Here are my inspiration pieces...
clearly this piece had some pretty nice bones!
COCOCOZY
Pair of Faux Bamboo Side tables  - $2600 !!!!
what!!!

Cottage Style Furniture Collection Faux Bamboo Nightstand
at Layla Grayce - $891.00 !!!
what!

sold out on Garnet Hill...sweet, LOVE the yellow, it was my second color choice.

I loved the knobs on this side table and so right away went
onto my favorite discount Hardware website
"MyKnobs.com" and found these
fantastic knobs:

Richelieu Hardware - Classic Expression - 1 7/8" Long Ring Pull with Rings Embossed Detail in Brushed Oil Rubbed Bronze

price - $3.68/each!!!
I waited anxiously for the arrival of the knobs and when they arrived,
three days later, I was able to finish the table!!!

I glued the refinished door fronts back on...with Titlebond Glue

Are you Ready for the REVEAL!!!!
...and don't forget, there is a surprise at the end!!!
TA! DA!!!

Isn't she lovely???

Are you ready for the Surprise?
voila!!!

SURPRISE!!!

IT OPENS!!!!

I PAINTED THE INSIDE
WITH MY NEW FAVORITE SPRAY PAINT COLOR
LAGOON BLUE!

It Opens!!!
It was, at one time, converted to a Hamper!!!
and now it is the piece OF FURNITURE that
I seriously have been looking for...for 7 years,
It is the replacement to the UGLY big basket of shoes
which has sat in this spot for 7 years!!!

I took off the back, and cleaned it all out.
I removed the LID,
...the underside was in better shape than the top,
 so I turned it over
I sanded it down, I then primed and painted it... put it back on
and replaced the hinges!!! Beautiful!

It is,
The answer to my PRAYERS!!!!

Obviously, it will usually have nothing on the top, but when friends come over, or when I am just in the mood, the piece can be styled
to look all fancy-like.
so,

  8. Found you on a link party this week. I paint furniture, so I'm always on the lookout for other projects that inspire me. It's rare to find furniture makeovers in blogland that don't involve distressing! I painted and recovered a faux bamboo chair recently, and love the lines of your piece. The gray color is great too. In fact, I featured you on my blog this week!
